On the first day of my first tour with my old band Sparrows & Arrows in August 2009, we played Harrisonburg, VA at the Blue Nile. I noticed this cute girl with white-rimmed glasses among a group of college kids watching us load in our gear in the rain. She walked past me at one point and I casually said, "I like your glasses," then went on about my business. Later, as the opener began, she came up to me and said, "Thanks for the compliment about my glasses." And then she stayed there and actually talked to me! I had sort of recently come out of a 6-year relationship, so I was unfamiliar with flirting, so I couldn't believe she might have been flirting with me. It was wild. She said she'd be hanging out at this girl Casey's house after the show, which was perfect because that's where we were staying the night. But after we played, she disappeared. I heard she went to another party down the street, but none of my bandmates would go with me to look for her. Fortunately, she signed our mailing list and I was able to look her up and talk to her on Facebook. We even got to hang out once! I told her about this song and she thought it was really cool, which is good because I was afraid she'd be super creeped out.

lyrics
There are so many things I wish I would have said to make you stay after the rain. I'll be the first to admit I'm new at this, but at least I caught your name.
Katie, where did you go after the show?
I fall in love way too easily. The next love of my life is in each new city.
I'm spending the night here on Casey's couch and I wish you'd lie here with me. You're so cute and I'm nothing to write home about. I can't believe you're talking to me, Katie.
Katie, Katie, Katie, Katie...
